Varsity Cinema, the Affirming Congregations of Greater Des Moines, the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, and Capital City Pride bring you this documentary in which a gay seminary scholar and a straight activist who are seeking to uncover the origins of the rabid homophobia of the conservative church make a shocking discovery: In 1946 an erroneous translation of the term “homosexual” occurred in an English translation of the Bible and has been weaponized against the LGBTQ+ community ever since.

There are two opportunities to see the film:
Sunday, July 21st and Sunday July 28th at 1:30pm

After the film there will be an optional 30-minute panel discussion with local religious leaders who are actively working to build acceptance of LGBTQ+ people with a message of full welcome and inclusion. The panel will be moderated by Wes Mullins, Executive Director of Capital City Pride.

The Affirming Congregations of Greater Des Moines include: Capitol Hill Lutheran, Covenant Christian Church, Downtown Disciples, Grace United Methodist, Heartland Presbyterian, New Beginnings Christian Church, Plymouth Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal, St. James Lutheran, St John’s Lutheran, St. Paul’s Episcopal, St. Timothy’s Episcopal, Trinity Las Americas UMC, Urbandale United Church of Christ, Walnut Hills United Methodist, and Wellspring Community Church.
